What’s the Best Age to Get Braces?

Parents often ask us: When should my child see an orthodontist? The Canadian Association of Orthodontists recommends a first checkup around age 7. At this stage, children usually have a mix of baby and adult teeth, making it easier to spot issues like crowding, spacing, or bite problems early.

Not every child will need treatment right away. Some may simply need monitoring until their teen years. Others may benefit from early intervention—like expanders or space maintainers—that guide jaw growth and make future treatment faster and easier.

For teens, braces or Invisalign® typically begin between ages 11–14, when most permanent teeth are in place. Adults can start at any age, but treatment may take a bit longer since bones are fully developed. If you’re unsure or are looking for guidance, reach out. Our team is here to help.
